On June 10, the City University of New York’s (CUNY) Professional Staff Congress (PSC) passed a resolution condemning Israel. The resolution called Israel an “apartheid,” “settler colonial state” responsible for the “massacre” of “Palestinians” during the conflagration in May, when Hamas shot over 4,000 missiles into Israeli city centers, unprovoked. This has resulted in what the new CUNY Alliance for Inclusion (CAFI) calls “a climate of hostility” toward Israel and the Jews on campus.
CAFI, operating since August, is comprised of more than 2,700 members of the community, including more than 400 faculty and staff members. Already of the members of CAFI have resigned from the PSC, which is the faculty union.
One wonders why the faculty union of an American body of learning must make any resolutions regarding countries other than their own. The answer? Any time one can demonize the Jews, an exception is made. Even, and perhaps especially so, for bodies representing “learning” institutions.
