Protests were scheduled not just in Paris, but around the world on Sunday, in response to the despicable ruling in the Sarah Halimi case. Sarah Halimi was murdered by Kobili Traoré, a 27-year-old Muslim man, in April 2017. Traoré violently beat his 65-year-old neighbor, screaming “Allahu Akbar” as he threw her out the window of her third-floor apartment.
A French lower court ruled in 2019, that Traoré was not liable for his actions, since he was high on marijuana at the time of the attack. Two weeks ago, the Court of Cassation upheld this ruling. Even the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, called to change the law so future such murderers can be held to account.
The son and brother of Halimi, flew to Paris for the demonstration, even though a demonstration was held in Tel Aviv. It is too bad that Halimi, unlike her son and brother, did not make Aliyah. If she had, she might still be alive, today. May Hashem avenge her blood.
