Antisemitism is Never Funny Even When it’s on SNL

Michael Che tells antisemitic joke on SNL

Protesters chanting “Shame on NBC!” and “Antisemitism is not funny!” appropriately gathered in New York on Saturday night. Why appropriately? Because the protest was a response to antisemitic content aired on Saturday Night Live, a show broadcast live from New York City on NBC. The protesters gathered outside the entrance to NBC’s West 49th Street entrance to make their feelings known.

What exactly was so offensive about this particular SNL segment? Read the transcript and judge for yourselves: “Israel is reporting that they vaccinated half of their population,” said Che, who by the way is co-head writer of the show, “and I’m going to guess it’s the Jewish half.”

The protest was organized by Dov Hikind, former NY state assemblyman and founder of Americans Against Antisemitism. Speaking to the crowd, Hikind confronted NBC for failing to apologize for the segment, and stressing that NBC must be told that “Antisemitism is never funny.”
