“The Poisoned Mushroom” and “The Mongrel,” English translations of German books published in 1938 and 1940, respectively, are for sale on Amazon Prime. The translations were published using Amazon’s publishing platform, and advocate for killing Jews, calling Jews “abusers of children” and worse. The German originals were put out by Hitler’s friend Julius Streicher (of Der Stürmer infamy).
It is likely that Amazon will pull these books from its virtual shelves before this blog comes to print. But we need to ask: is there no oversight on the items the giant of merchandise offers the public? Should we boycott Amazon until it puts a mechanism in place to stop this peddling of hatred at a time of burgeoning antisemitism? Or is Amazon so Amazonian, that we cannot live without it?
