Israel on Lockdown for Yom Kippur

Jewish Israelis pray out of doors during coronavirus epidemic

Coronavirus is spiking like crazy in Israel, which had led to tougher lockdown measures just as Yom Kippur is ushered in. From the Jerusalem Post:

“The Health Ministry reported Saturday that 8,315 new cases were diagnosed the day before, out of 62,035 people screened for coronavirus, which is a 13.4% positive rate.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu implored the public not to meet for prayers in the synagogue on Yom Kippur. A heatwave, alas, is expected to make it difficult for congregants to meet out of doors, as is recommended.

Prayers for the people of Israel who are in for the fight of their lives, literally, as this latest coronavirus challenge is confronted by a people already embattled by terror.
