The world is in an uproar over Alice Walker and her antisemitism, as expressed during a New York Times interview. Waters told the world that the book that sits on her nightstand, is rabid antisemite David Icke’s “And the Truth Shall Set You Free.” When called to task for printing what amounts to an endorsement of Jew-hatred, editor Pamela Paul said, “We never question people on their choices . . . The people’s answers are a reflection of their opinions, tastes and judgment.”
Really? Is it really only a matter of opinion, taste, and judgment to promote the view that Jews are shape-shifting lizards, as Icke has done, and Walker applauded? Or is it out and out antisemitism that should have no place in any publication of repute? The Gray Lady’s hair is turning ugly. (Or maybe it turned a long time ago.)
