A committee of members of the Lithuanian parliament are working on a draft of legislation that will state that Lithuania and Lithuanian leaders did not participate in the Holocaust. The truth of the matter, however, is that more Lithuanians killed Jews than did Nazis, during the Holocaust. And more Lithuanian Jews were killed than those of any other European Jewish community during the Holocaust. So it’s a bold lie.
Lithuania appears to be copying Poland here, which only recently drafted legislation making it illegal to state that Poland participated in the Holocaust. We can expect to see a raft of European countries denying culpability for the Holocaust, even as antisemitism in those countries rises to levels we haven’t seen since the Holocaust.
Is it any wonder?
